Homemade muesli

Homemade is the way to go as it is natural and healthy compared to the brands on the market which often contain up to 50% dried fruit and are very high in calories. They are cleverly marketed to make you think that they are healthy for you so be careful not to be misguided as they are often laden with high amounts of sugar, honey, syrup or other sweeteners.

This tasty recipe is a lovely mixture of flaked grains, nuts and seeds that are high in fibre, antioxidants and are an excellent source of B vitamins which support your metabolism and help convert food into energy. It can aid weight loss as the high fibre content keeps you fuller for longer.  This nutrient dense recipe is really delicious and so easy to make. 

This recipe yields 10 portions.

Ingredients:

100 g of organic jumbo oats

100 g organic rye flakes

100 g organic barley flakes

100 g organic unsweetened toasted coconut flakes

100 g quinoa flakes

100 g almonds, roughly chopped

100 g sunflower seeds

100 g pumpkin seeds

100 g sesame seeds

50 g flax seeds (brown linseeds)

50 g chia seeds

5 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)

Method:

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine all ingredients together.
  • To serve, spoon a portion into a bowl, pour over milk of your choice and top with some chopped fresh fruit.

* Store in an airtight container or mason jar for up to 3 months.
