BONE BROTH - WHAT IS IT?

Bone broth, or put simply stock, is a much talked about food trend nowadays and for very good reason. It has been around for hundreds and thousands of years, it used to be a dietary staple making it one of the oldest homemade foods.

Bone broth is the stock made from meat bones. Making your own is easy and far superior to those sold by butchers as it will be more nutrient dense as well as being much cheaper.



Benefits of bone broth A nutritious food to include in your diet as proteins play a vital role in the maintenance of good health, bone broth is rich in essential amino acids, proline, glycine, glutamine, vitamins and minerals.

  • Gelatin, which is rich in proline and glycine, helps support the cells in the digestive system so contributing towards a healthy gut and glycine has also been shown to aid sleep

  • Collagen is the main structural protein that makes up connective tissue within the body and supports and helps maintain the joints. Collagen is the main component of the human skin, giving it strength and elasticity. It is important to note that, as collagen production slows down with age, we need to include collagen rich foods in our diet even more as we get older

  • Glutamine is important for maintaining the integrity of the mucosal barrier in the gut and therefore a healthy gut lining

  • Nowadays, leaky gut is becoming a growing problem so a regular intake of bone broth can help to keep your gut lining healthy

  • Bone broth contains both arginine and cysteine which boost the immune system, reduce inflammation, act as antioxidants and help the anti-ageing process

  • Bone broth is a wonderful tonic during or after an illness, such as cold or flu as it will help to reduce the symptoms and nurture and repair the body

In short, I would encourage you to drink a mug of bone broth everyday. The benefits are numerous so just see it as giving yourself a real health and vitality boost.
